We’ve just returned from our latest expedition in The Land Between The Lakes. And let me tell you what a whirlwind it was. The first half of the week we explored areas of the peninsula we’ve been to before and experienced all forms of High Strangeness. Because of Steve Causey and Dewey Edwards genius and generosity in providing us with a working cell booster tower setup, we were able to livestream to subscribers and members on several occasions. We even managed to upload raw scouting footage from the area where Martin Groves had his encounter in 1993 and the location where we found the abandoned tents, the occupants of which are still unaccounted for.

Head over to the channel to check those videos out:

While there we also filmed with Small Town Monsters for several upcoming projects. Keep an eye out because this will be a collaboration not to be missed. The main project is expected to release in Spring of 2024.

Tennessee Wildman and Cryptid Con

We are pleased to announce that Hellbent Holler will be speaking at The Tennessee Wildman and Cryptid Con at Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN on OCTOBER 14 & 15. I will be giving a presentation on the ins and outs of outdoor paranormal field research, presenting some of the evidence we have captured and opening a dialog on Appalachian High Strangeness.

We are honored to share the bill with none other than Ron Morehead, lifelong adventurer, recorder of the Sierra Sounds and author of the seminal work The Quantum Bigfoot. Ron has been an incredible influence on our project, bringing new and exciting ideas to the seemingly stagnant field of Bigfoot research. Also joining us will be our friend and brother, Martin Groves. Martin’s book Beasts Between the Rivers chronicles his harrowing Dogman attack in The Land Between the Lakes in 1993 while on a hunting trip.

We hope you can join us in Tennessee for this truly once in a lifetime event. Tickets and information for the event can be found here.

Uwharrie Expedition #1

We just returned home from our first foray into the Uwharrie National Forest, located in central North Carolina and named after the Uwharrie mountain range. The Uwharries are considered the oldest mountain range in the United States. Once a prehistoric coastline, the Uwharrie mountains soared over 20,000 ft high until millennia of erosion wore them down to not much more than impressive hills covered in pines and shrouded in mystery.

In the world of Bigfoot, The Uwharries have gained a lot of attention in the past few years. Alleged audio recordings and footage have cropped up, along with a plethora of stories and encounters. Some encounters taking a seriously supernatural turn.

This expedition was an eye opener in more ways than one. From gear shakedowns to adjustments for climate and terrain, to the surprising human element, The Uwharries have presented us a challenge we simply cannot back down from.

During the expedition, we managed to do 2 live investigations and our regular Monday night discussion show. Give them a watch to whet your appetite for things to come.

UFOs Over North Carolina: The Brown Mountain Lights

In the winter of early 2023, we traveled to North Carolina to investigate a centuries old phenomenon that has been a mystery to all who have witnessed it. The Brown Mountain Lights. While there have been many attempts to scientifically explain these anomalous lights that haunt these mountains, no definitive answer has ever been put forward. And no attempted explanation could have prepared us for the footage we would capture that night.

After taking a long unpaved backroad to our vantage point, we realized we had enough cell signal to livestream the investigation to our subscribers. The following is the “edited for time” version of that investigation. The full uncut live stream is available at the links below.

Original Livestreams: – Part 1Part 2

I sincerely believe this is the best footage of The Brown Mountain Lights to date. While we expected something more akin to spook lights meandering through the forest, what we experienced was much closer to a UFO or UAP sighting.

The Laughing Beast: Searching for Bigfoot in South Carolina

In late June of 2023, I received a very interesting email from a woman giving me specific directions to a place where she and her husband regularly experience Bigfoot activity. While I get emails all the time, this one got my attention because of one detail, the laughing. In the email she describes what would be considered “typical” bigfoot activity (as if there is such a thing as typical, funny how we can sometimes reduce the most fantastic things down to the mundane). She described another creature as not bigfoot, but something else. And this something else was laughing as it charged them.

This outing was just our scouting mission. We had no real intention of doing a thorough investigation and brought minimal equipment. However, upon reaching the location described in the email, we were greeted with a series of the most bone chilling howls and calls that we had ever heard.

There is no doubt in my mind we will be returning to investigate this location several times in the near future, with full kit and loadout in tow of course. And we might have a few experiments up our sleeves.

Field Journal: Sickness & Synchronicity

Sweet summer sickness swept through Hellbent Holler HQ this week. On the brightside, it’s given Joe and I a little time to recharge and me some time to dive into some of the more tedious research required by many of the current cases I’m working on. On the rare occasion I’m under the weather, I have a the tendency to rewatch some of my favorite movies. In the mood to watch Robocop, I suddenly changed course and selected Tombstone, the star studded 1993 classic based on the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and subsequent Earp Vendetta Ride.

After the movie, I dove into my inbox, replying to email after email until I came upon one that stopped me in my tracks. Forwarded from the contact page on the site, a gentleman reached out to me about one of my research areas that we kept closely under wraps. Clearly he had been there and knew it well. His family had a history of strange encounters with the lights that we kept seeing and capturing in our videos. He warned of the danger of those lights, the missing people associated with them and further details I’m not quite ready to divulge. I immediately replied and anxiously awaited a response. I did a quick search on the name associated with the email and that led me to a missing persons directory. A man with a similar name had gone missing in 2020, he just walked out of his home one day and was never seen again. Weird, I thought. Until I scrolled down the page to see the town in which the missing man resided, Griffin, Georgia. Where had I seen that? Oh yeah, two hours earlier when I was reading a quick bio on my favorite member of Wyatt Earp’s posse, Doc Holliday. Doc Holliday’s life came to an early end in Colorado, not at the end of barrel of a gun, but a sickness, tuberculosis in fact. However, Doc’s life began in a small southern town called Griffin, Georgia.

A small, almost insignificant coincidence, but strange none the less. I’m noticing more of these little coincidences. My granny told me this means I’m on the right path. That I’m headed in the right direction. But to what? Are these synchronicities ramping up or am I just more aware of every little strange occurrence? More and more people keep telling me about their own strange little coincidences. It’s like something is building and somehow we’re all full steam ahead on this trajectory.

I’m still waiting on a reply from my mystery email contact. Lest I start to believe these coincidences are just the odd connections of a fever addled brain firing off.

Get back to me when you can, M.
